We are asking everyone to send a photo of their toast to us (send to susan@alexmanfullwineproject.org) which we will post on Alex’s birthday, September 7th (on Instagram @TheAlexManfullMemorialFund and on the website at www.alexmanfullwineproject.org). We will continue to post photos through October 9, 2020 which is PANDAS Awareness Day. Please help us with this project. Hunter Jackson recently gave a talk to her school about PANDAS/PANS, an immune-mediated neuropsychiatric disorder, that she has struggled with.

Hunter’s talk was moving and informative, a hard combo to capture well but Hunter did!

Charlie is the young man behind The Kids Crew. His team was one of the first teams established…if you are looking for another team worthy of a gift, Charlie’s team is it!

Did you know that 20 -60% of patients with psychia

Did you know that 20 -60% of patients with psychiatric disorders are treatment resistant? That is, they don’t respond to conventional treatments for a given disorder.

Pictured here ( left to right) are Lauren Breithaupt, PhD and Kyle Williams, MD, PhD who study OCD and eating disorders, among other conditions — disorders that are often considered treatment resistant.

But when the symptoms are recognized as being triggered by infection causing a dysregulated immune system and inflammation — and treated as such! — symptoms are more likely to remit! That is, the patients are no longer treatment resistant!

Such conditions are called immune mediated neuropsychiatric disorders, basal ganglia encephalitis and, of course, PANDAS and PANS.

Dr Breithaupt, clinical psychologist, works with Dr Williams, psychiatrist, at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr Williams is one of the pioneer researchers in this area.

It was good to see these professionals at the house party, hosted by Brandi Dean board member of The Alex Manfull Fund, to salute Dearborn Academy’s Consult Model.

The Alex Manfull Fund and the National Alliance for PANS/PANDAS Action are honored to have Shelby Lock, award-winning pianist and composer, help us celebrate the inaugural Advocacy Day on the Hill and the TAMF 5K in Washington DC in June 2 and 3.

Shelby — who ran half/marathons 5 years ago — is a wheelchair user today and her spirit continues to soar!!!

Shelby caught a “‘mild virus’ and did not recover.” She has #myalgicencephalomyelitis. As she writes, ME/CFS “strikes the young, healthy, and unsuspecting”

I’m remembering Alex when everyone knew her as m

I’m remembering Alex when everyone knew her as my fabulously funny, brilliant, kind daughter. Long before she became known as the daughter for whom a non-profit organization was named.

We must change the way medicine is practiced. My daughter would be celebrating Mother’s Day with me if this disorder had been diagnosed earlier and treated effectively — if the role of infections and a dysregulated immune system had been recognized — and treated!

Passion and professionalism personified: Melissa McCormack, MD, PhD, Sheilah Gauch, LISCW, MEd, and Peggy Chapman, PNMHCS comprise the Consult Model at Dearborn Academy.

They each spoke at a recent House Party hosted by Brandi Dean, Board Member of The Alex Manfull Fund (TAMF).

The broad subject was the critical importance of distinguishing immune-mediated neuropsychiatric disorders from conventional psychiatric disorders. The cause is different and the (effective) treatments are different.

To learn more about the Consult Model and how it is used at Dearborn Academy, watch their presentation at the PANDAS/PANS Symposium, held in October 2022 in Portsmouth, NH, organized by TAMF. (link in bio) It’s pretty impressive!

Drum roll…And the winner of the The Alex Manfull Fund 5K Team midpoint challenge is …. “Inflamous” in CA (AB 907) !!!

They raised $12,600 with more promised! Wahoo!
Amazing! Just Amazing! We are over the moon with gratitude!

Inflamous members pictured here — right after their unanimous victory in the CA Committee on Health last week — are Shari Strulson, Rachel Spray, and April Ronay plus a few other important contributors to the passage of AB 907, including Rachel’s daughter, Rylee, and Paul Murphy from The Alex Manfull Fund.

We cannot wait to see a few members of this team in Washington, D.C. at Advocacy Day on the Hill and the TAMF 5K!!
